Maitreya Chapel (Redhouse Lodge)

Text: The Red House as it is commonly known is a private house and a lodge. The most striking monument is just over the gateway where there is another small temple containing an impressive tera-cotta image of Maitreya, the future Buddha, some six feet high. Research has found that this statue was brought at only later, presumably in the beginning of the 20th century, whereas the house itself is much older. The owners claim the house to be more than 350 years old. That makes this lodge the oldest lodge in Kagbeni. The legal owners of the lodge can still be found there. This lodge unlike others in Kagbeni isn't that commercial. People stay here for the rustic experience and people who admire history will particularly love this lodge.
