Also commonly known as the new monastery this must have been the main gompa once as it held a community of monks with a presiding lama. Now, there are no monks, just the apostate lama. The reason this gompa is commonly known as the new gompa is probably because it was relocated in 1983. The gompa looks like a palace from the outside with the main entrance accessible after a flight of stairs. Inside, the gompa contains statues and the best wall paintings. A glassed shelf houses statues of Padmasambhava, 1000 armed Avalokiteshvara and Buddha in different postures. The largest statue is that of the 1000 armed Avalokiteshvara and is the main deity of this gompa. Right in front of the gompa there is a courtyard where the Dhekep festival is celebrated. Dhekep is a festival where masked monks perform various dances. If the gompa is closed then go look for a private residence near the gompa, they will most definitely have the keys.
