The Khumjung Monastery is popular for it's yeti scalp. An interesting fact about the yeti scalp is that it was a face-saver for Sir Hillary's unsuccessful attempt in 1960 to locate a yeti. After eight weeks of search yielded no results, Sir Hillary borrowed the yeti scalp that is housed here for a world tour and scientific testing. Unfortunately, the scalp was shown to be the skin of a serow, a goat-antelope. If not for the yeti scalp, the monastery is well worth a visit in its own right and also who wouldn't want to see the world's most travelled serow hide??
