The actual name of the gompa is Ogyan Thekchhok Ling Ki Gongba but is famous by the name of Gyaru gompa since people aren't really fond of long and tongue- twister names. This gompa is usually locked but the wall paintings are worth seeing if you can find someone to let you in. Main statues inside this Nyingmapa gompa include a shiny golden statue of Buddha with Guru Padmasambhava to his right and Avalokiteshvara all adorned in silky Khatas. Inside the gompa, you can see paintings of wrathful deities of direction and some fearful masks as well. The concept of wrathful deities is to instill fear in those who get involved in wrongdoings. Nowadays, Lamas arrive from Kathmandu to read the holy books inside the gompa. The Lamas who can read these holy books have all shifted to Kathmandu, complain the residents of Gyaru. This was the only gompa that David Snellgrove the Tibetologist was unable to get access to during his Buddhist survey of the Manang valley in 1956. So if you get access you are definitely luckier than brother Snellgrove. Besides this gompa, there used to be an older gompa which unfortunately has been destroyed during the 2015 earthquake.
