Siurung is an old Gurung settlement with a view that is unchallenged. The
thing with large settlements so high up in the hills is that back in the days
when malaria was the norm in the lower valleys and war was the order of the
day, these high hills provided protection against both the fever and the
spears. Hence most of the large village of the mid-hills in Nepal are high up
rather than down below by the river. And good thing it is for had you taken
the low route you could probably toiling through the road with dirt and dust
while from here the mountain ranges smiles at you in its full glory. To the
left is the tip of Bouddha Himal followed by Himalchuli, Ngadi Chuli, Manaslu
and Thulagi Chuli.
Perhaps once you see the view you will forgive us for bringing you all the way
up for what could otherwise have been an easy stroll. Also while your legs
might not like us now, believe us they will thank us profusely later on.
Also since the whole homestay thing works on a rotation basis you will need to
contact the Chief of the Homestay committee, Mr. Nanda Ghale (+977-9849661226,
+977-9746013149). For camping groups, things can be arranged for in the school
yard. Check out the lodge section for contact details.
